Damien Hirst
Hirst is an English artist and entrepreneur. He is well known as the United Kingdom’s richest living artist. Hirst is popular for his many different works, one being his “spot paintings” consisting of rows of colorful painted spots created by his assistants.
Spotted Dragonflies
For a previous project created in response to Hirst’s spot paintings and Kusama’s polka dot art, I created dragonflies with different sized and colored spots.
In response to Damien Hirst’s “spot paintings,” I decided to design one of my own. For this project, I decided to go a digital route and create a piece with my iPad using the app, Procreate. Because Hirst is also popularly known for his art of animals, I tried to create a spotted piece of an animal.

Butterflies and the Environment
Butterflies have a large role in the environment as they benefit with pollination as well as natural pest control. They are an important part of the food chain. Butterflies are an indicator of a healthy environment, playing a role in biodiversity including plant, animal, and micro-organism variety. Flowering plants are closely linked to butterflies, if we continue to deteriorate the Earth, butterflies will not have a sustainable environment. Creating digital art related to the environment is helpful in raising awareness of environmental change, just as a butterfly is a representation of change.
